Oral-B Education Competition Instructions
What do I need to participate…
ALL participants MUST register in order to receive prize money and supplementary prizes. Registration is a simple process and no cost is involved.
You have two options for registration:
1. Online registration Form
2. Auxiliary magazine - centre section, blue pages; registration form published in the magazine.
Online:
The online submission of the module assessments in the Oral-B Auxiliary Education Competition is no longer available. The Auxiliary website has been relaunched (2007) to offer an additional version of the Oral-B Auxiliary Education Modules as self-study automated CPD using a streamlined 20 question multiple-choice assessment. The new online version is available to all dental professionals seeking to fulfil CPD registration requirements as well as those wanting to expand their current knowledge.
The new online assessments are NOT accepted for participation in the Oral-B Education Competition. Oral-B Education Competition participants MUST complete the full assessments of the five module series as published in the 2007 Auxiliary magazines to be eligible for the First Place cash prize of $1500.
Participants in the Oral-B Education Competition as well as those wanting to utilise this learning style will have online access to all the Oral-B Auxiliary Education Programme Modules as Portable Document Format (PDF) to download and print. Assessments can be submitted by:
- Post: Auxiliary magazine, PO Box 586, CAMMERAY NSW 2062
- Email: terri@auxiliary.com.au; or

Auxiliary magazine:
The Oral-B Auxiliary Education Programme Modules are published in the bimonthly Auxiliary magazine, which is distributed with the Australasian Dental Practice magazine or individually by subscription.
Auxiliary magazine has been publishing a series of five educational modules each year – March/April through November/December – since 2003. Featured in the centre section of the Auxiliary magazine is a two-page education article along with a one-page assessment aimed at comprehension of the objectives.
The full page assessments published with the Modules are the only assessments accepted in the Oral-B Education Competition.
Dentist employers who are subscribers to the Australasian Dental Practice magazine are encouraged to pass along the Auxiliary magazine to their dental team members.
Individual subscriptions for Auxiliary magazine are available for A$22 / NZ$22 per year or A$38 / NZ$38 for 2 years.

Completing the Assessments…
The modules are restricted in word length due to restraints imposed by publication in Auxiliary magazine. Therefore, the Oral-B Auxiliary Education Programme Modules intend only to present basic information on relative and current oral and systemic health topics.
The assessments are aimed at comprehension of the objectives through a variety of test questions and practical assignments. It is imperative to access additional references to gain a full understanding of the topic presented.
To achieve the objectives, it is recommended to:
Have a dictionary available – preferably a Medical dictionary.
Online Medical Dictionary at http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?action=Home&query=
Consideration can also be given to these resources:
- Be prepared to request information from the dental industry; i.e. product information, techniques, clinical research etc.
- Utilise the internet, educational brochures you give your patients and/or professional journals.
- Consult with your dental team and colleagues.

Points System in Marking the Assessments…
Each module is worth a total of 100 points, inclusive of bonus and optional extra points. The winner will be assessed on achieving a total of 500 points.
Bonus points will be offered, but only a maximum of 100 points can be obtained in each assessment. Therefore, bonus points will be added up to a total of 100 points with each assessment and cannot be carried over.

Answer Sheets…
The answer sheets cannot be published or distributed prior to the completion of each series. This is to ensure that each registrant be given an equal chance at winning the $1500 cash prize.
Each assessment that you submit will be individually marked to indicate where you have provided the correct answers, but more importantly you'll be given detailed explanations of the answers that were incorrect. This keeps in line with the total learning experience to ensure you have a full comprehension of the subject material in the modules.

PRIZES…
This is not a game of chance and the winning entry will be assessed on its individual merits. The judges’ decision will be final. The results will be published online and in the March/April 2008 Auxiliary magazine.
Oral-B will award the Auxiliary dental professional who achieves the highest competency with a $1500 cash prize, based on a total value of 500 points.
Supplementary prizes will be awarded at the completion of the 2007 five-module series where specified for outstanding achievements in preparing assignments with the assessments.
Each registrant who completes the five modules of this fifth series will receive a commemorative certificate to display to their patients and dental office acknowledging their commitment to furthering their dental knowledge and basic skills.
